Following the article in JEP on Thursday evening, I managed to speak to Bob Tompkins, who used to be one of Jersey biggest Commercial Honey producer but now enjoy Beekeeping for the pleasure of it. Jersey has between 400 to 500 colonies, it may seem a lot, however the last couple of summers have not been the best conditions for bees. As mentioned in last week’s blog, the bees don’t just produce honey for the pleasure of our taste buds; they also produce honey to keep them going the whole winter. If there is no surplus of honey to help during the cold winter months, the colony will simply die.
Have you ever thought what is the real value of those tiny little creatures?? Have you ever thought what would happen to our beautiful island and our world if there were no bees left?? A dramatic quotation about the dangers of environmental upheaval is attributed to the brilliant physicist Albert Einstein: “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man”.
Not sure about the four year, but what I can see his point about a world without honeybees would also mean a world without fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, an incredible almost one-third of the world’s crops are dependent on honeybees for pollination. We certainly need to understand the value of the Honeybees.
Understanding “The Lifetime Value of the Customer” is nowadays more and more crucial – we know how quickly bad news travel. A recent survey shows that 83% of people trust independent sources; word of mouth recommendations from customers with good experiences are more influential than advertisements. Eight out of ten people would tell their story when they have had a bad experience to warn others about doing business with the company and to discourage them to buy from them.
If you keep serving your customers well before, during and after the sale, they will turn into a long term clients and not just only will they return to you again and again, but they will also recommend you to their friends and family, customer service plays a tremendous role in that experience and can have the effect of increasing or decreasing sales quite dramatically.
